Lina Kaplan, Psy.D.

Professional Background


A graduate of California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), Los Angeles, Dr. Kaplan is a licensed psychologist with more than 17 years of broad clinical psychotherapy experience in various mental health settings, including UCLA-Santa Monica Hospital. She has served as a clinical supervisor at The Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills and at Jewish Family Services of Los Angeles.

Dr. Kaplan teaches psychology graduate students at California Graduate Institute, Pepperdine University and Antioch University. In addition, Dr. Kaplan has served on the faculty of the Doctoring Program at the Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA where she worked with medical students on enhancing their sensitivity to patients’ emotional needs in order to improve the quality of care they provide. Dr. Kaplan teaches a similar course, "Psychology of Patient Care", at the Yo Sun University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Throughout the years, Dr. Kaplan has conducted professional trainings and made numerous public presentations on various subjects, such as immigration & acculturation, coping with the stress of infertility & pregnancy loss, cross-cultural adoptions, sexual violence against women, child abuse & adult survivors of abuse, Eastern philosophy and Western psychology.

In addition to receiving a broad post-doctoral training at the department of Psychiatry at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Kaplan has been certified in "Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy" by the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute & Society and the Psychoanalytic Center of California.

A multilingual (English, Hebrew, Russian and basic Spanish) with special interest and expertise in immigration, relocation, and cross-cultural challenges, Dr. Kaplan has been committed to counseling the international community in Los Angeles around issues of acculturation stress, cross-cultural relationships, international adoptions and psychosocial interventions for domestic violence in immigrant communities in Los Angeles.

With a background in dance, Dr. Kaplan works with both professional and social dancers in helping them to create greater awareness about the mind-body relationships so they can be expand their creative processes and be better able to express themselves on the dance floor.
